Projector or LED video wall: The ultimate display decision

Many companies are evaluating whether Projector or LED video wall offers a better financial savings. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is a crucial concept for understanding the full financial impact of a product or service over its entire lifecycle. Intuit Research has examined this area to provide valuable insights for both individuals and businesses.

A comparative analysis of projection and LED video wall technologies

Finding the right fit

As the AV industry evolves, selecting between high brightness projector
and LED video wall is key to the ultra viewing experience.

“Projection technology is flexible with less hazards when installing the solution. We do not want anything to go wrong in a live event as that can really impact the experience of the event. We believe projectors have a definite advantage over LED video walls in such scenarios.”

– a senior project director, responsible for configuration of AV technology, explained his organisation's preference for projectors over LED video walls when comparing the two technologies.

Cost efficiency

Laser projectors outshine LED video wall displays in terms of cost-efficiency in the aspects of upfront unit cost, installation charges, maintenance and parts replacement.

A comparison of the TCO for technologies over a period of 10 years, shows that laser projectors are 52% to 75% more cost efficient compared to LED wall. The overall TCO savings on larger display sizes are driven primarily by lower upfront cost as well as lower maintenance cost and energy consumption for projection technology.

Built for reduced
environmental impact

Laser projectors streamline production and setup with fewer materials and reduced transportation emissions, thanks to their compact design. For example, a single EB-PU2220B laser projector delivers a stunning 330" display while consuming 30% less power compared to its predecessor1. In contrast, an LED video wall requires approximately 144 tiles2 to achieve the same screen size and uses significantly more power. Additionally, over 80% of Epson's projector packaging is made from recycled cardboard, further reducing environmental impact.
